Using Google Apps/Email with Rocketship

Google has recently updated their domain name validation process. We will be updating Rocketship to make it easy for you to use Google Apps/Email soon. In the meantime please send an email to us at help [at] getrocketship.com requesting help with setting the proper DNS setting for Google Apps.

Here's how to setup and use Google Apps/Email for your domain with your Rocketship website:

STEP 1

First, make sure the DNS for your custom domain* is already pointing to Rocketship's Name Servers (dns1.launchrocketship.com, dns2.launchrocketship.com). You'll know this is setup correctly when you type your domain into your web browser and either it loads your website running on Rocketship, or you see a Rocketship page come up.

*A custom domain is one you have previously registered with a domain registrar such as GoDaddy or NameCheap.com. In order to use Google Apps with your Rocketship site you'll have to already have setup your custom domain. See Using a Custom Domain Name with Your Rocketship Site for more information

STEP 2

Signup for a Google Apps account. Here's a link to signup for the Google Apps Standard Edition:
http://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new

STEP 3

During the signup process, Google will ask you to verify that you own the domain you're trying to setup with Google Apps through one of the available methods. Use the CName option that Google provides for verifying domain ownership,
and enter the value they give you as the Google Apps ID under the Email tab in Rocketship. All of the necessary DNS records will then be automatically created in our DNS system.

Once Google verifies your domain, your email should show as "Active" in your Google Apps control panel.

You can also create custom domains to gain access to your web based Google Mail easier. Rocketship automatically sets up the proper CNAME settings so you only have to setup the custom URL mail.yourdomain.com at Google.

STEP 3

If you use your browser to check your email you don't need to do anything other than log in to your Google Apps account to check your email.
However, if you use an email client such as Outlook or Apple Mail you'll need to set up your email client to retrieve your mail. Here are some helpful tutorials for your email client setup.
